ENTRANCE TO THE PARLIAMENT OF GALICIA/GALICIAN PARLIAMENT
Santiago de Compostela

The project aims to form a whole with the Galician Parliament solving the connection proposed in the competition. The result is a building that is both an accessible entrance and a discreet and quiet element that obeys the representative character of its use: the entrance door to the Parliament of Galicia/Galician Parliament.

We take as a reference those stereotomic architectures that use the weight of the stone to give a symbolism and a solid relationship with the passage of time to a parliamentary seat that celebrates and represents the powers of democracy.

We establish a resonance between our project and the arcades of Santiago, which protect you from the inclement weather and create a relationship of local identity through their rhythm, materiality, light and shadow, creating a blurred line between inside and outside; as we do between public life and the Galician government.

We seek proximity to the parliament building through material, scale and rhythm of the facade, achieving a human scale and at the same time an almost timeless, archaic and representative building.

The flamed wild granite becomes the object that articulates the facade giving it a finish that identifies with our traditional architecture, the Hórreos and the Cathedral of Santiago. The patina that will form on the facade will make it age with dignity and integrate with the whole building over time.

Access to the Parliament is facilitated by creating accessible/barrier-free pedestrian routes, which, as shown in the floor plans, allow differentiated access through the thin stone strips to the areas destined for traffic.

Access to the first floor from the parking lot is in close proximity to the access control. Once the access control is passed, we enter a large area that then compresses us and in which we have access to the access floor to the building through stairs or elevator in which the space expands through communication with the upper floor.

It is considered very important to nuance the boundaries between public and private, between outside and inside, between rulers and people by creating a filter of privacy towards the Parliament, through a semi-public space that acts as a monumental link between nature and shelter; between the outside of public life and the inside of parliamentary life.
